Baby’s Bathing Guide

A Nivea Baby Bathing Guide: All You Need To Know

Giving your baby a bath is a task that requires patience, preparation and just a little bit of skill. It can be overwhelming to figure out what exactly you need to do which is why, we have you covered.

Firstly, babies have different skin care needs as their skin can be particularly sensitive and hence, it is very important to make sure you take care of your little one’s delicate skin. Taking this into account, it is essential to use products that are designed for babies to ensure that it is safe and maintain the health and softness of your baby’s skin.

Baby’s Bathing Guide

It all starts with preparation!

Always be prepared as it makes things easier and allows you and your little one time to enjoy the little bathing bonding session. Follow the tips below to get started.

  • Make sure the room is warm.
  • Keep a clean, soft and warm towel ready on the side to wrap your baby after bathing.
  • Make sure to keep all materials such as washcloths, towels, blankets and fresh diapers close at hand.
  • Fill the baby bath tub/tray with water only halfway and ensure the water temperature is around 36 - 37 ° C.
  • Always hold your baby in the bath with at least one hand.
  • Do not wash your baby’s hair until the end of the bath. Otherwise, the little one would feel cold on the head (the head cools down faster than the rest of the body).
  • Never leave your baby unattended when bathing!

A step by step bathing guide.

Once everything is prepared, it’s time for the perfect baby bath! Follow these instructions:-

  1. Put baby in the bath - Small baby bathtubs or bath trays are ideal because you can hold your baby better and safely. Set up the mini tub so that it does not tip over. Hold the little one with your left hand under the left shoulder so that the head is supported by your forearm and you’re also supporting the back. If your baby is sitting in the tub, you have both hands free to bathe them!
  2. Wash your baby’s face and body - Gently wipe your baby's eyes and face with a washcloth soaked in clean warm water. Don’t rub the cloth, instead gently tap or dab onto your baby’s skin. Wipe your baby’s arms, legs and torso with a small, soft washcloth. Take your time with this so that your little one can enjoy the bath in the warm water. After 5 to 10 minutes you’re done!
  3. Splashing – Allow your baby to splash and kick their feet in the warm bath water. Your baby may remember the time when it was in your tummy.
  4. Take your baby out of the bathtub – Always hold your baby firmly and with your free hand reach under your baby's bottom and back while your other hand supports your baby’s arms. Carefully lift your baby out of the tub and place them on a soft mat or a preheated bath towel.
  5. Dry your baby – Gently dab the water off the skin with a warm and soft dry towel. Don’t forget to dry and wipe the folds of your baby’s skin.
  6. Moisturize the skin - Hydration is key! Make moisturizing a part of your baby’s skincare routine for soft and supple skin. It is important to protect your little one's skin from dryness with a layer of added protection. The ideal time to moisturize your baby’s skin is immediately after bathing while their skin is still wet and moist. Remember to pat dry instead of rubbing the skin. Pamper your baby’s delicate skin with some mild baby cream like NIVEA Baby Mild Touch Moisturizing Lotion.
  7. Massage your baby - Give your baby a massage! It is a great way to soothe your baby after a merry bath. It supports digestion, blood circulation and the functioning of the immune system. Your baby will relax and fall asleep peacefully and soundly after or during the massage. It has a calming effect on the little one and it strengthens the parent-child relationship. Take a small amount of baby oil, such as the NIVEA Baby  Delicate Caring Oil, in the palms of your hands and gently massage into the baby's skin.
