DRY SHAVING:
HOW TO DO IT PROPERLY
Quick tips:
DRY SHAVING IN 4 STEPS
Just woke up and have no time for a long routine? Fair enough – in the morning everything needs to be quick and easy. That’s why dry shaving is ideal: these short steps give you a fast, well‑groomed shave.

It’s called “dry shaving” – but you still can’t do it completely without water.
- Dry shaving: preparation
Want your skin to feel smooth and avoid spots after a dry shave? Then you should prep your skin for dry shaving:
- Step one: Wash your face with a mild cleansing gel. This removes impurities and other build‑up and helps prevent clogged pores.
- Step two: Now you need a pre‑shave. For dry shaving, your beard hair should be upright and dry. Pre‑shave products are alcohol‑based and do exactly that. They help your beard stand up and get perfectly prepped for a dry shave.
- Dry shaving: intermediate stepHaven’t shaved for a while or want to take off your beard? Then you need a rough trim first. Luckily, most electric shavers have a trimming option. Pop on the attachment and trim your beard as short as possible – the smooth shave will be easier afterwards.
- Let’s get started: proper dry shaving
Time to tackle the stubble! Take your shaver and glide it over your skin with light pressure. Don’t go over the same spot too many times, so you don’t over‑stress your skin.
In this order:
- Start with the areas around your mouth and chin where the skin is thinner.
- Then move on to your neck and cheeks.
Shave with or against the grain?
With dry shaving, the direction isn’t as crucial as it is with wet shaving. If your skin reacts easily, it’s best to shave with the grain to avoid irritation and redness.
When’s the right time to shave?
It’s best to shave your beard before you shower. Otherwise your skin and beard hair swell, and the shaver can’t catch the hairs as well.
- Dry shaving: the finishAftershave after an electric shave? Yes, definitely. Even if you shave your skin dry, you should still care for it afterwards. Dry shaving removes not only hair but also tiny parts of the outer layer of the skin (stratum corneum) – so your skin is under quite a bit of stress. If you apply an aftershave after using your electric shaver, it will help calm your skin and prevent irritation. Finish with a moisturising cream.

A matter of cleanliness:
TIPS FOR CLEANING YOUR ELECTRIC SHAVER

For cleaning your shaver, it’s best to prepare a small brush. Very often it already comes in the box with your electric shaver. Alternatively, you can use a toothbrush.
This is how to clean your shaver:
- Remove the shaving head from the shaver and tap it out well into the sink.
- Use the brush to remove the hairs.
- Rinse the blades with warm water.
- Set the shaver aside to dry and wait before you reassemble it.
- Once all parts are dry, you can put it back together – done!
As a rule:
- Repeat after every shave.
- Disinfect the shaving head once a week.
- Replace the shaving head (foil and cutter block) every 18–24 months.

WILL YOU CHOOSE?
FOIL SHAVER

ROTARY SHAVER
Rotary shavers are triangular in shape. Most of the time three flexible rotary heads spin at the same time. Thanks to the arrangement of the blades, these shavers can move over your face optimally – especially if you shave with circular motions. That gives you an especially thorough shave. Tip: they take a little practice to handle, so be patient with yourself.

QUALITY MATTERS
- Beard‑density sensors detect how dense your beard is in different areas. Power and vibration adjust accordingly – great tech for an even more effective shave.
- Lasers show you the exact line to follow. They display a guide you can simply trace. This feature enables super‑precise beard contours.
- Cooling elements, usually aluminium, reduce heat from friction on the skin – ideal if yours is sensitive.
- Strong batteries save you from tedious recharging. It’s best to check this when you buy the shaver.
- Quick‑charge function is something you’ll really appreciate when you forget to charge. Who wants to wait?
- Waterproof heads make cleaning easy, because you can rinse the shaving head under running water.
- Cleaning stations do the job for you at the end – you don’t have to clean the shaver after use.
