Our approach to production
We constantly work on improving how we produce. This means we keep making progress in areas like energy use, water management and the efficient use of materials across our operations.
As part of this, Beiersdorf has set company-wide climate targets that are aligned with climate science. Learn more about our Climate Transition Plan and the actions we are taking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain.
The way we make our products is a key part of our sustainability journey. Across all our production sites, we constantly work on improving our processes, including how we use energy, water and materials.
One major focus is reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our operations. Since the end of 2019, all NIVEA production sites have been running on electricity from 100% renewable sources. To keep moving forward, Beiersdorf has set company-wide climate targets that are aligned with climate science and supported by a Climate Transition Plan. Our ambition is to have climate‑neutral production sites by 2030. Learn more in our annual report 2025.
Water is another important part of our production processes. Advanced water treatment technologies are already in place at sites in India and Indonesia, with additional sites in Thailand, Spain, Mexico and Poland expected to become operational in 2026/2027. We also carry out regular assessments to better understand local water conditions and to find opportunities to use water more efficiently. Please find out more about our water strategy.
By 2030, all key production sites located in areas with high water risk are expected to be equipped with advanced water reuse technologies.* This supports our ongoing efforts to improve water efficiency across our operations.
*Key sites are Beiersdorf production sites that account for more than 3% of global water withdrawal.
Even though we are reducing waste, we cannot avoid it completely. That is why we committed early on to “zero waste to landfill”. Landfills put a heavy burden on the environment, so we are determined to avoid them altogether. Around the world, 16 out of 17 NIVEA production sites have already reached this goal.
